Give Your Children The Best Gift of All – YOU

Dr.Laura
We live in a time where millions of children spend all day away from their families in facilities that have big screen TVs to amuse them, and they have caregivers for whom English is not required. This is also the time when parents buy ever-increasing numbers of electronic gizmos to occupy their children’s time – sometimes to “make them smarter,” or to “make them buzz off,” so that busy, busy parents can have some “well-earned down time.”

Whether its TV, computer games, or hand-held devices, more and more parents are inundating even babies with all of this mass-produced “input.” A recent study reported that about 40% of families with babies and young children keep the television on at all times. “Always on” TV damages the children’s ability to play imaginatively and to develop language skills. Obviously, it reduces the number of nurturing interactions between parents and children, too.

There are many so-called studies which identify programs that provide a positive influence (like “Barney,” which teaches kids politeness and social cooperation). The problem with all of these studies is that they never compare these TV-watching children to those raised in TV-free households to compare the shows to the loving attention of a parent.

The problem is that we are living in a time of rising juvenile obesity and inactivity, and ever-increasing “diagnoses” of ADD and ADHD (which I believe most of the time is “kids being kids,” and/or kids who don’t get proper attention paid to them, with direction, support, and consequences). This is also a time of more childhood sexual activity, leading to STDs, pregnancies, abortions and broken hearts with confused minds.
So, this Easter-time, change your adult life around and give your children “stuff to do” — some with you and some on their own – to exercise their imaginations and give them a sense of accomplishment.

The Best Parents

Five-Star is an expression used in a variety of ways. It includes a high ranking general in the army. It may refer to the best hotel available. Let's consider Five-Star Parents. They need to be recognized for being the best parents of all. Those Five-Star Parents include five characteristics in relationship with their children. These include, attention, affection, acceptance, approval and affirmation. No one area may be neglected and still be a Five-Star Parent.

Attention. Every child needs personal attention from parents. Sometime, parents may become too busy or too tired to give their children the attention that they really need. Attention gives time for activities and conversation. It makes time to be there for them at a ball game or school program. Attention given to children is like sunshine and rain to a flower garden.

Affection. Every child needs to experience love from their parents. God gives parents the opportunity to show His love for children. Those expressions of love include words and hugs. Children need not assume that their parents love them. They need a daily dose of parental love, just like they need a daily diet of good food.

Acceptance. Children have different strengths and abilities. Their personalities differ, as well as their ability to achieve. Five-Star Parents understand that their children are different. They accept them for who they are. They realize God has given all of us different talents, strengths and abilities.

Approval. Five-Star Parents understand that their children need their approval. It's a God-given instinct. Their self-esteem is at stake. Parents approve the value and worth of their children. Unfortunately, there are adults who still seek their parents approval, and have yet to receive it. To give your approval to a child is to give your blessing.

Affirmation. A parent's words of affirmation are about encouragement and positive re-enforcement. Those words reward positive action and attitudes in children. The sense of achievement in the mind of a child is strengthened within the age level of developmental tasks. A parent's words are powerful and may be remembered for a lifetime. Those words of affirmation provide children with more incentive to develop in the skills of life.

Just a nice message...

I did not write this. I received it from a friend and I thought I would share it with all the kind people on this site.

A Birth Certificate shows that we were born
A Death Certificate shows that we die
Pictures show that we lived!
Have a seat . . . Relax . . . And read this slowly.

I Believe...
That just because two people argue,
it doesn't mean they don't love each other.
And just because they don't argue,
it doesn't mean they do love each other.

I Believe...
That we don't have to change friends if
we understand that friends change.

I Believe...
That no matter how good a friend is, they're going to hurt you every once in a while and you must forgive them for that.

I Believe...
That true friendship continues to grow, even over
the longest distance. Same goes for true love.

Bibi wa Miaka 105 Ajiny'onga Baada ya Kuchoka Kuishi....

Anastasia Khoreva

Majoy.

Marriage and Money

They had a really good marriage. They enjoyed being together. Their three children were a blessing. Everything went well in the family, but one thing. They got into some emotional conflicts about family finances. In his family of origin, his father controlled the finances. In her family of origin, her mother always took care of the family finances. She liked to use the credit cards often and without restraint. He thought credit cards were to be used sparingly.

Once a month, when the bills came due, the conflict was predictable. Harsh words were spoken and nerves were on edge. The feud was always over family finances.

Remember, disagreements over finances is one of the three leading causes of divorce. Don't let financial conflict ruin a good marriage. Discuss the issue before the bills come due. Take the emotions out of the issue. Listen to each other with an open mind.
Talk about your spouse's family of origin and how financial decisions were made. Husband and wife come to marriage often with different models in family finances. The contrasting models must be understood.
Read books and articles together on family finances. Discuss different suggestions openly and honestly. Be willing to find the middle ground on a new plan.

No Perfect Husbands

She was a college graduate and now teaching in elementary school. Her mother had always wanted her to be a teacher. She was always a compliant child, so now she's a teacher.

Over the years, she had dated many guys, but her mother was never happy with any of them. After meeting a new guy, her mother would say sooner or later, "Well, he's okay, but I know you can do better." Time after time this continued to happen, until she met a guy that she really loved. Her mother eventually said the same thing, "Well, he's okay, but I know you can do better." That statement failed to block a relationship this time. Now, they were engaged, and it was the day before the wedding. The mother said, "I hope you know what you're doing. It's not too late to call off this wedding." But, that didn't happen.

Majoy na  Mama Suzanne Lewis maarufu Natasha (Msanii wa Filamu Bongo) kwenye uzinduzi wa Zuku TV

7 Reasons to Be Happy Even if Things Aren’t Perfect Now

Being happy doesn’t mean that everything is perfect. It means you’ve decided to look beyond the imperfections.

The way I feel about myself; how much I open myself to new people and experiences; how often I choose to smile simply because it feels good. None of these things depend on my life situation.....
1. Enjoying the present moment is a habit that takes practice. If you always look toward tomorrow for happiness, odds are you will do the same when you attain what you’ve been dreaming of. As strange it sounds, the ability to appreciate what’s in front of you has nothing to do with what you actually have. It’s more about how you measure the good things in your life at any given time.

Practice wanting what you have and it will feel even sweeter when you eventually have what you want. Look around—what’s in front of you that can enjoy?

2. Finding reasons to be happy now can benefit your future. Dr. Dacher Keltner of the University of California claims she can predict a person’s future by judging the strength of their smile. Researchers examined yearbook photos of 111 female students taken between 1958 and 1960. Subsequent tests revealed that the women who expressed more positive emotion in those photos became more mentally focused, had more successful marriages, and enjoyed a greater sense of well-being.

From the article:

“While positive emotion tends to broaden thought, negative emotion tends to narrow it and hold back development….The findings of Dr Keltner and his colleagues, published in the Journal of Personality and Social Psychology, are among the first to show that differences in the extent to which people express emotion may be stable throughout their lives and dictate personal and social success.”
